Bike Transport from Gurgaon to Kochi (Ernakulam)

Shifting to Kochi for a job at Infopark, sending a scooty home to your parents in Aluva, or taking your Royal Enfield along on a posting? Kochi is one of the longest regular routes out of Gurgaon, roughly 2,650 to 2,800 km by road depending on the corridor the carrier uses. BikeShift Gurgaon arranges collection from your Gurgaon parking, packing suited to your model, long-haul carriage and delivery to your address in Kochi, Ernakulam or a nearby town. Before you pay anything, you get a written scope listing what is included, what would be extra and the expected dates.

This page covers what is different about the Kochi route: why it costs more than Bangalore or Chennai, how your Kochi address changes the delivery, what the monsoon and sea air mean for a bike that has been wrapped for a week, and the Kerala tax rule that catches many people with a Haryana number plate.

Transit days count from the day the carrier leaves, not from the pickup date. The timeline section below explains the gap.

Why Kochi costs more than Bangalore or Chennai

People often compare a Kochi quote with what a friend paid for Bangalore and feel it is too high. There are three practical reasons for the gap.

What the bands assume, and what to get in writing

Each band assumes one running bike, packing suited to its category, collection from a normally accessible Gurgaon address and delivery to an accessible address in the main Kochi city area. Before confirming, check whether your written quote clearly includes or excludes:

Cross-check against published Delhi to Kochi rates

Rate lists published online in 2026 for Delhi or NCR to Kochi vary a lot. Some show a standard motorcycle at around ₹7,700–₹9,600 and cruisers at ₹18,000 or more, while others advertise starting figures as low as ₹2,000–₹3,000 for the same route. A figure far below the range usually leaves out doorstep legs, packing or cover, or assumes a station or godown handover. A figure far above it should come with a clear reason, such as a crate or a dedicated slot. Compare written scopes, not headline numbers.

Pickup to delivery: a realistic Gurgaon to Kochi timeline

On a route this long, it helps to think in four dates, not one.

Stage What happens Typical gap
Pickup Condition record, packing and loading at your Gurgaon address Day 0
Consolidation The bike waits at a handover point until a carrier heading south has space Often 1–3 days; can be longer in peak weeks
Dispatch and transit Long-haul run south, possibly with a transfer at a southern hub About 6–9 working days
Delivery booking The receiver in Kochi confirms address, access and a time window Usually the day before or the day of delivery

So from the day the bike leaves your parking, plan for roughly 8 to 12 days before you ride it in Kochi. Ask for the expected dispatch date in your quote, not only the transit days.

The route south, in brief

Carriers out of Gurgaon heading for Kerala usually take one of two broad corridors: the central NH-44 line through Agra, Gwalior, Nagpur, Hyderabad and Bangalore, or the western side through Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra. Either way, most loads enter Kerala from Coimbatore through the Walayar check post and the Palakkad gap, then come down via Thrissur and Angamaly to Ernakulam. The exact path, halts and any transfer points are the carrier's decision and are not a fixed itinerary. For you, what matters more is the delivery end, covered below.

Peak weeks for Kerala-bound moves

Space on Kerala-bound carriers gets tighter around Onam (usually August–September), Christmas and New Year, and the April–June window when many families relocate before the school year. If you are moving in these weeks, book earlier and keep a few extra days of buffer before you need the bike.

Plan your first week in Kochi without the bike

If you join at Infopark or Smart City on a Monday, do not plan to ride there that day. For the first week, the Kochi Metro (Aluva to Thrippunithura line), office cabs, autos or a short-term rental will do. If the bike arrives early in its window, treat it as a bonus.

Delivery in Kochi: what your address changes

"Kochi" covers a wide area: the mainland city around Ernakulam, the IT belt in Kakkanad, the islands and old town of West Kochi, and growing towns to the north like Aluva and Angamaly. Delivery to each works a little differently. Tell us the exact locality, landmark and pin code, and we will tell you what we need to plan for.

Area Typical addresses What to tell us
Kakkanad and the IT belt Infopark, Smart City, Kakkanad Civil Station, Seaport–Airport Road, Thrikkakara, Chittethukara Tower and gate number, whether visitor vehicles need prior entry on the society app, and basement or open parking
Central Ernakulam Edappally, Palarivattom, Kaloor, Vyttila, Kadavanthra, Panampilly Nagar, MG Road, Marine Drive, Thevara Where a delivery vehicle can stop on a busy road, building parking rules and a preferred time slot away from peak traffic
West Kochi Fort Kochi, Mattancherry, Thoppumpady, Palluruthy, Kumbalangi, Willingdon Island Lane width near your house, the nearest wider road and any permission needed to enter port or naval areas
Islands across the Goshree bridges Vypeen, Bolgatty, Mulavukad, Vallarpadam, Njarakkal Exact island and landmark; some approaches suit only a small vehicle
North of the city Kalamassery, Eloor, Aluva, Angamaly, Nedumbassery, Kalady Whether the address is off the NH-544 corridor and how far down a side road it sits
South and east suburbs Thrippunithura, Maradu, Kundannoor, Nettoor, Kolenchery, Piravom Pin code and the route from the main road; some interior roads flood in heavy rain
Outside the Kochi area Perumbavoor, Muvattupuzha, Kothamangalam, North Paravur, Cherthala, Thrissur, Kottayam, Alappuzha Quoted as its own delivery leg. Hill addresses such as Munnar are assessed separately.

Kakkanad, Infopark and Smart City

Most job relocations from Gurgaon end here. Large apartment projects along Seaport–Airport Road and around Infopark usually manage visitors through a security desk or an app. Register the delivery in advance, tell security a bike is coming in, and confirm whether the delivery vehicle can enter or must stop at the gate. If you are staying in a PG or a company guest house for the first few weeks, check whether they allow a bike to be parked and received there before you give that address.

Edappally, Vyttila, Kaloor and MG Road

These are busy roads with heavy traffic at office hours and around Lulu Mall, Vyttila Hub and the Kaloor stadium area on match or event days. A delivery here goes more smoothly with a mid-morning or early-afternoon slot and a clear stopping point. Flats along Marine Drive and in Panampilly Nagar often have tight basement ramps, so mention it if the bike has to go down a ramp after unloading.

Fort Kochi, Mattancherry and Willingdon Island

The old town has narrow lanes, heritage buildings close to the road and tourist traffic. A large vehicle simply cannot reach many houses here, so the bike may be brought to the nearest wider road and rolled the last stretch. Willingdon Island has port and naval areas with controlled entry. If your address is inside a restricted campus or quarters, arrange the entry pass, or tell us a point outside the gate where you can receive the bike.

Aluva, Angamaly and towns outside the city

These are common for families receiving a scooter or bike from a son or daughter working in Gurgaon. If a parent will receive it, name them on the booking, share the pickup condition photos with them beforehand and make sure they have the keys or know how the spare reaches them. Towns further out, such as Perumbavoor or Muvattupuzha, are priced as a separate leg, so mention them at the start instead of just writing "Kochi".

Rain, humidity and sea air: protecting a bike bound for Kochi

Kochi gets heavy rain in the southwest monsoon from roughly June to September, and more showers with the northeast monsoon in October and November. Humidity stays high most of the year, and areas near the backwaters and the coast, such as Fort Kochi, Vypeen and Marine Drive, get salty air. This affects both packing and what you do after delivery.

Pickup in Gurgaon

The Gurgaon end of this move works the same as any long route. We collect from society basements on Golf Course Road, Golf Course Extension and Sohna Road, from office parking in Cyber City and Udyog Vihar, from older sectors and Palam Vihar, and from New Gurgaon, the Dwarka Expressway sectors and Manesar. Arrange the gate pass, tell us the basement level and where a loading vehicle may stop, and name the person who will hand over the keys. The full pickup access worksheet on our home page lists everything to send before the quote.

One point specific to Kochi: since delivery is 8 to 12 days after pickup, many people book the pickup two or three days before their own flight. That way the bike is not waiting in Kochi while you are still in Gurgaon, and you do not pay for holding.

Haryana-registered bike in Kerala: tax and registration

This is where the Kochi route differs from most others. Many people moving from Gurgaon have heard that they can ride an HR-number bike in another state for up to 12 months without doing anything. For Kerala, that is not the full picture. Two separate sets of rules apply.

In practice, if you are relocating to Kochi rather than visiting, expect Kerala tax to come into the picture well before the 12-month mark. The Kerala Motor Vehicles Department has been strict about out-of-state vehicles that are kept in the state, and unpaid tax can attract a penalty on top of the tax itself.

Your situation What usually applies What to do
Short stay or visit, up to 30 days Kerala's temporary tax provisions may apply Check with the RTO or MVD Kerala whether a temporary tax payment is needed for your stay
Relocating to Kochi for a job, studies or family Kerala tax can be levied once the bike is used in Kerala for more than 30 days; re-registration is due within 12 months Get an NOC from the Gurgaon registering authority, then apply at the Ernakulam RTO (KL-07) or the sub-RTO for your address. Tax is calculated on the bike's depreciated value as per Kerala's schedule.
Defence personnel posted to Kochi Kerala has notified a tax exemption for certain non-transport vehicles brought in by defence personnel when tax was already paid in another state Confirm eligibility and the documents needed with the RTO before you pay
Bike on a BH-series registration BH-series vehicles are meant to move between states without re-registration Keep the BH tax payments up to date and carry the documents
Financed bike (hypothecation on the RC) The lender's NOC is usually needed for the Haryana NOC and Kerala re-registration Ask your bank or finance company for it early; it can take time

Rules and enforcement can change, so treat this as a guide to the questions to ask, not legal advice. Check the current position with the Ernakulam RTO or the Kerala MVD before you plan your budget. Ask the Gurgaon RTO separately whether any refund of Haryana road tax applies to your case. Do not assume one either way.

Documents for the move itself

To carry the bike, keep self-attested copies of the RC, the current insurance policy and the owner's photo ID ready, plus an authorisation letter if the person sending the bike is not the RC owner. Keep the originals you need for riding in Kochi with you: RC, insurance, PUC and your driving licence. Keep the consignment note (bilty) from pickup; its date is a simple record of when the bike left Haryana. How we handle the copies you share is set out in our privacy policy.

Train or road from Gurgaon to Kochi?

There are direct trains from Delhi to Ernakulam. The Mangala Lakshadweep Express runs daily between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Ernakulam Junction, and the Duronto runs weekly on the same pair. So rail is a real option, especially if you are travelling on the same train and can book the bike as luggage. The question is how much of the work you want to do yourself.

Task Road, door to door Rail parcel or luggage
Gurgaon end Collected from your parking You take the bike across Delhi to Hazrat Nizamuddin or New Delhi, depending on the train; check in advance that the parcel office is accepting two-wheelers
Packing Part of the booking Arranged and paid for by you at or near the station
Fuel As instructed by the carrier for your model Tank must be empty; ask the station how this is handled
Which train Not applicable A parcel booking may go on a different train and day from you; a luggage booking goes with your journey
Kochi end Delivered to your address You collect it from the parcel office at Ernakulam Junction (South) or the station it was booked to, unpack it, find petrol and get it home
Hidden costs Shown on the written quote Cab or fuel to the Delhi station, packing, porter help, a day of your time at each end, and transport from the Kochi station

Rail tends to suit someone travelling on the same train with time to handle both stations. Road suits people flying to Kochi, families sending a bike to parents, and anyone who cannot spend half a day at a parcel office in Delhi and another in Ernakulam. Neither is automatically safer. What matters is the packing, the handling and the records kept at each handover.

Notes for different bikes on this route

Royal Enfield and other 350cc bikes

Royal Enfields are probably the most common bikes on this route, and Kerala has a large RE riding community. These bikes are heavy, so a basement roll-out in Gurgaon may need two people. Chrome tanks and silencers need padding that will not trap moisture. Crash guards, saddle-stay frames and touring seats should be listed on the condition record. If you plan a ride to Munnar or Vagamon soon after arriving, give the bike a quick check at a service centre first. A long journey on a truck does not wear the engine, but tyre pressure, chain slack and the battery should be looked at.

Scooters going to family

A scooty going to a parent in Aluva, Thrissur or Kottayam is a common booking. The main risks are practical, not mechanical: the receiver is not home, the keys are with the sender, or nobody checks the scooter before signing. Name the receiver, share photos with them and ask them to inspect it before they sign.

Electric scooters

EVs are accepted model by model. Share the exact make, model and variant, whether the battery is fixed or removable, and any history of warning lights, water exposure or battery damage. Preparation follows the manufacturer's guidance and the carrier's rules. Do not open, remove or drain the battery yourself. Before you move, check that your brand has a service point in Kochi you can reach, and list the charger separately if it is travelling with the scooter.

Premium, sports and 650cc+ bikes

Faired sports bikes, big tourers and imported bikes are assessed before we accept them: loading method, ground clearance on ramps, screen and fairing protection, and whether a crate or a dedicated slot is needed. Declare a realistic value for cover. Under-declaring cuts the premium and also what you can claim.

Worked example: a hypothetical Gurgaon to Kakkanad budget

This is an illustrative scenario to show how to build a budget. It is not an invoice, a completed move or a customer review, and the amounts are examples, not quotes.

Scenario: a Royal Enfield Classic 350 parked on the B1 level of a society in New Gurgaon, Sector 82, moving to a flat near Infopark, Kakkanad. The owner flies to Kochi three days after pickup and joins work the following Monday.

Item Example amount What would change it
Carriage in the 350cc band, with packing and doorstep legs at both ends ₹10,200 Exact variant, accessories, delivery locality, dates
Basement roll-out with an extra person, if the quote treats it as extra ₹300 Ramp, distance to the gate, whether loading inside is allowed
Transit cover on a declared value of ₹1,50,000 (example figure) ₹1,400 Policy, declared value, exclusions
GST As shown on the invoice Not assumed here; check how your quote shows it
Holding in Kochi if the bike arrives before the owner (example ₹150 a day for 2 days) ₹300, or ₹0 if avoided Timing the pickup or naming a receiver
Metro, autos or cabs for the first five working days (example ₹250 a day) ₹1,250 Distance to the office, office cab availability

Here the provider's charges come to ₹11,900 plus GST as invoiced, or ₹12,200 if holding is needed. With the first week's commute, the owner's real cost of moving the bike is about ₹13,150 to ₹13,450 plus GST. Kerala road tax and re-registration are separate from the move. They depend on the bike's value and age, and for a two- or three-year-old 350cc bike they can be a sizeable amount, so check them before deciding whether to move the bike or sell it in Gurgaon.

Frequently asked questions: Gurgaon to Kochi bike transport

How much does bike transport from Gurgaon to Kochi cost?

Our indicative door-to-door bands are about ₹6,200–₹8,800 for a scooter, ₹6,800–₹8,800 for a commuter motorcycle, ₹7,500–₹9,800 for a 160–250cc bike and ₹8,800–₹11,800 for a 350cc-class bike such as a Royal Enfield Classic or Hunter. Premium 300–500cc bikes are around ₹9,800–₹13,500, and 650cc+ bikes are quoted individually, usually from ₹13,500. The final figure depends on the exact model, both addresses, access at each end, packing and the cover you choose. GST, holding and delivery outside Kochi city should be shown clearly on the written quote.

How many days does it take to send a bike from Gurgaon to Kochi?

Road transit is about 6–9 working days after the carrier departs, and the bike may wait 1–3 days after pickup for a carrier with space going south. In total, plan on roughly 8 to 12 days from pickup to delivery, and more around Onam, Christmas and the April–June relocation season. Ask for the expected dispatch date as well as the delivery window.

Why is Gurgaon to Kochi costlier than Gurgaon to Bangalore?

Kochi is roughly another 550 km beyond Bangalore, fewer carriers run all the way to Kerala, and the final delivery inside Kochi often needs a smaller vehicle because many local roads cannot take a large truck. A bike may also move to a southern transfer point before the last leg. Together these add to the cost compared with a high-volume route like Bangalore.

Can I ride my Haryana-registered bike in Kerala after it reaches Kochi?

Yes, you can ride it with a valid RC, insurance, PUC and your driving licence. But Kerala's own taxation law allows the state to levy tax on an out-of-state non-transport vehicle once it has been used in Kerala for more than 30 days, and the central rule requires re-registration if the vehicle stays in another state for more than 12 months. If you are relocating, get an NOC from the Gurgaon registering authority and check the current tax position with the Ernakulam RTO or the Kerala MVD early. BH-series bikes and some defence personnel vehicles are treated differently.

Do you deliver to Fort Kochi, Vypeen or Willingdon Island?

Usually yes, but these need more planning. Many lanes in Fort Kochi and Mattancherry are too narrow for a large vehicle, so the bike may be brought to the nearest wider road and rolled the last stretch. Vypeen and the other islands across the Goshree bridges may need a smaller delivery vehicle. Willingdon Island has port and naval areas with controlled entry, so arrange a pass or agree on a receiving point outside the gate. Share the exact address and a landmark when you ask for a quote.

Can you deliver outside Kochi, to Aluva, Thrissur, Kottayam or Alappuzha?

Yes. Aluva, Kalamassery and Angamaly fall in the wider Kochi area. Towns such as Perumbavoor, Muvattupuzha, North Paravur, Cherthala, Thrissur, Kottayam and Alappuzha are quoted as a separate delivery leg. Hill addresses like Munnar are assessed separately because of the ghat road. Mention the town at the start so the estimate and dates are realistic.

Is sending a bike by train from Delhi to Ernakulam cheaper?

The railway charge on its own can look lower. There are direct trains from Hazrat Nizamuddin to Ernakulam Junction, including the daily Mangala Lakshadweep Express. But you have to take the bike across Delhi to the station, arrange packing, empty the tank, complete the booking and then collect the bike from the parcel office in Ernakulam and get it home. Add the cab or fuel to the station, packing, porter help and a day of your time at each end before comparing it with a door-to-door road quote.

Will monsoon rain damage my bike on the way to Kochi?

The outer wrap is there to keep rain and road spray off the bike, and the bike travels inside the carrier. The bigger risk comes after arrival, when moisture can get trapped if a bike stays wrapped for days in a damp parking area. Unwrap it soon after delivery, inspect it under cover if it is raining, wipe it down, lube the chain and check the electrics. If your road is waterlogged on the delivery day, it is safer to move the slot by a day.

Can my parents in Kerala receive the bike if I am still in Gurgaon?

Yes, if you name them on the booking. Share their name and phone number, send them the pickup condition photos, and make sure the keys reach them or travel as listed on the record. Ask them to unwrap and inspect the bike with the delivery person present before signing. If the receiver is not the RC owner, keep an authorisation letter with the RC copy.

Do you transport electric scooters from Gurgaon to Kochi?

EVs are accepted after checking the exact model against the manufacturer's guidance and the carrier's rules. Share the make, model, variant and whether the battery is fixed or removable, and mention any warning lights, swelling or water exposure. Do not remove, open or drain the battery yourself. List the charger separately if it is going with the scooter, and check that your brand has a service point you can reach in Kochi.

How much petrol should I leave in the tank?

Follow the instruction given for your booking, because road carriers set their own limits, and railway bookings need an empty tank. The simplest way is to plan your last few rides in Gurgaon so the tank runs low naturally. Never siphon or drain petrol yourself in a basement or parking area. After delivery in Kochi, ride straight to the nearest petrol pump.

Is transit insurance included in the Gurgaon to Kochi quote?

Do not assume it is. The written quote should state whether transit cover is included, the declared value, who the insurer or responsible party is, the premium and the main exclusions. Your bike's own motor policy may not cover it while it is carried as goods. Cover helps if something goes wrong, but whether a claim is accepted depends on the policy conditions and the evidence you can show, so keep the pickup photos, condition record, delivery record and invoice.

Should I move my bike to Kochi or sell it in Gurgaon and buy there?

It depends on the bike's value, its age and how long you will stay. For an older commuter bike, transport plus Kerala tax and re-registration can come close to its resale value. For a newer or well-loved bike, moving it often makes more sense. Get a written transport quote, check the likely Kerala tax with the RTO, and compare the total with what you would get selling in Gurgaon and buying again in Kochi.
