Bike Transport Gurgaon to Kolkata: Charges and Delivery Planning
Moving a motorcycle or scooter from Gurugram to Kolkata is a long interstate job, roughly 1,480 to 1,610 km depending on where it starts and ends. The distance itself is rarely what goes wrong. Problems usually start at the two ends: a bike that can't leave an office basement without a facility pass, or a delivery address that just says "New Town". They also come from nobody with keys being home when the bike arrives in Kolkata, or a Howrah address quoted as if it were on the Kolkata side of the river.
BikeShift Gurgaon handles bike and scooter transport enquiries on this route. We assess four things for each bike: local collection, packing for your specific model, the carrier arrangement and the delivery scope. Then we give you a written estimate that shows what is and isn't included. This page is for relocating employees, families, students, and owners who are travelling separately from their bike. It explains the charges, the two pricing scopes and the decisions you need to make at both addresses.

Gurgaon to Kolkata Bike Transport at a Glance
| Item | What to plan for |
|---|---|
| Road reference distance | About 1,480–1,610 km between city references. Map apps show several driving options, mainly along NH-19, some using the Ganga and Purvanchal expressways. Your actual endpoints and the carrier's permitted route decide the real figure. |
| Transit estimate | About 4–7 working days after confirmed dispatch. Collection, load consolidation and the final delivery appointment are separate steps, so allow extra time on either side. |
| Planning estimates | From ₹4,000 hub-to-hub or ₹4,600 doorstep for a scooter, up to ₹15,000 doorstep for a large premium tourer. These are estimates for one assessed bike, not fixed all-inclusive prices. |
| What we need to quote | Model and variant, fitted accessories, running condition, the exact Gurgaon address and parking type, the exact Kolkata or Howrah address, your release date, and who will receive the bike. |
Gurgaon to Kolkata Bike Transport Charges by Category
The figures below are planning estimates in Indian rupees for one bike, after we have assessed it. The hub-to-hub column means you hand over and collect the bike at confirmed loading and receiving points. The doorstep column includes collection in Gurgaon and delivery in Kolkata at an agreed lawful access point.
| Category | Typical examples (each bike assessed individually) | Hub-to-hub estimate | Doorstep estimate | What usually moves the figure |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Scooter and scooty | Honda Activa, TVS Jupiter, Suzuki Access 125, Yamaha Fascino, Honda Dio, TVS Ntorq 125 | ₹4,000–₹4,600 | ₹4,600–₹5,400 | Plastic body panels that crack under side pressure, fitted floor-mat carriers, and larger maxi-style scooters, which are assessed higher. |
| Commuter motorcycle | Hero Splendor Plus, Honda Shine, Bajaj Platina, Pulsar 125 and 150, TVS Raider 125, Yamaha FZ-S | ₹4,400–₹5,000 | ₹5,000–₹6,000 | Crash guards, rear carriers, top boxes and saddle stays add width and packing time. |
| Sports and naked street | TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, Pulsar NS200, Yamaha MT-15, Yamaha R15, KTM Duke 200 and 250 | ₹5,000–₹5,800 | ₹5,800–₹6,800 | Fairings, clip-on bars and exposed TFT displays need extra protection. Heavier 400s such as the Dominar 400 or Triumph Speed 400 are usually assessed against the next row. |
| RE and cruiser | Royal Enfield Classic 350, Hunter 350, Bullet 350, Meteor 350, Himalayan 450, Jawa 42, Interceptor 650 | ₹6,000–₹7,000 | ₹6,900–₹8,200 | Weight, chrome, crash bars and panniers. A 650 twin fitted with wide guards and luggage may be assessed in the large row. |
| Accepted electric two-wheeler | Ather 450 series, TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, Hero Vida V1, Ola S1 range, only after the exact model is accepted | ₹4,600–₹5,400 | ₹5,400–₹6,400 | The carrier's and manufacturer's battery requirements, how a removable battery or charger is handled, and protection for the display. |
| Large or premium tourer | Kawasaki Z900, BMW GS adventure bikes, Triumph Tiger 900-class, large Harley-Davidson cruisers | ₹8,500–₹11,000 | ₹10,500–₹15,000 | Width with panniers, declared value, whether a dedicated space is needed, and any crate, which is quoted separately if required. |
What these estimates include and what is itemised separately
Every estimate covers packing suited to your model, the long-distance carrier arrangement and the scope you choose: hub-to-hub or doorstep. Several costs are listed as separate lines on your actual booking, so you can see each one:
- applicable taxes
- the transit cover you choose
- special handling such as a crate, a non-running bike or extra loose accessories
- any holding or redelivery you agree in advance
Hub-to-hub pricing does not include either local leg, meaning getting the bike to the loading point in Gurgaon or from the receiving point in Kolkata, unless your quote says so. In that case, the actual loading and receiving addresses, appointment times and the receipt process are confirmed with you before handover.
Doorstep pricing means delivery at an accepted, lawful access point, such as the gate, the kerb outside your building or the parking area your society nominates. It doesn't mean the bike will be taken into every tower lobby, lift or basement. If you need it taken further inside, tell us when you enquire so it can be checked and priced.
Why your bike may sit in a different row than its CC suggests
Engine size is a poor guide to transport effort. What matters more is the bike's weight and width, fitted parts such as crash bars, panniers and windscreens, its value, and whether it rolls and brakes properly. A heavily accessorised 350 can need more space and handling than a stock 400. A large maxi-scooter may not fit the effort of a small commuter scooter either. Tell us the exact variant and send photos of fitted parts, and the category will match your bike rather than a label.
Hub or Doorstep: A Worked Total-Cost Comparison
A hub-to-hub estimate looks cheaper on paper, but you handle both local legs yourself. The example below is hypothetical. It uses a commuter motorcycle and assumed local costs to show how to compare the two scopes. It is not a quote, an invoice or a record of a past booking.
| Line item | Hub-to-hub path | Doorstep path |
|---|---|---|
| Carrier estimate (example within the commuter range) | ₹4,700 | ₹5,500 |
| Gurgaon leg: owner rides to the confirmed loading point and takes a cab back (assumed) | ₹500 | Included in scope |
| Kolkata leg: cab to the confirmed receiving point, then owner rides home (assumed) | ₹450 | Included in scope |
| Example total before taxes and chosen cover | ₹5,650 | ₹5,500 |
| Owner's time (assumed) | Two trips to handover points during working hours | Two appointments at the two addresses |
In this example, doorstep works out ₹150 cheaper once both local legs are counted, and it saves two trips. The result reverses if you live close to the confirmed loading point, already have a friend who can ride the bike in Kolkata, or your Gurgaon office is next to the handover point. Do the same three-line sum with your real distances before choosing. Taxes and cover apply to both paths, so leave them out of the comparison and add them back for your final budget.
Route, Distance and Realistic Timing
Driving routes between the two cities run east along NH-19 through Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand into West Bengal. Some map options shift part of the journey onto the Ganga and Purvanchal expressways. City-to-city references range from about 1,480 to 1,610 km. Temporary closure or diversion notes on map apps change, so don't treat them as permanent features of the route. Which roads a goods carrier actually uses depends on its permits, its schedule and where it transfers loads, so we don't promise one fixed corridor.
A passenger car can cover the distance in roughly 25 to 27 hours of driving, but freight works differently. Carriers stop for loading, rest periods, checks and transfers. A realistic planning estimate is about 4 to 7 working days after confirmed dispatch. Before dispatch, there may be a gap between collection and the load departing. After arrival, the final delivery is booked as a separate appointment.
Shared carrier or a direct arrangement
Most bikes on this route travel on a shared carrier with other consignments. That can involve a transfer, and a smaller local vehicle usually does the final city leg. This keeps the cost in the ranges above. If you need the bike on one dedicated vehicle without transfers, ask for a direct or exclusive quote, which is priced separately and depends on availability. Whichever you choose, we confirm the arrangement in writing, so you know whether a transfer is part of the plan.
Updates you can rely on
We give updates at milestones, not as a promise of live GPS on every vehicle. You'll hear when the bike is collected, when dispatch is confirmed, when it arrives in the Kolkata area, and when it's out for delivery. Your receipt number links all of these, so quote it in every message.
Link your own dates to the transport dates
| Milestone | What it depends on | How to plan around it |
|---|---|---|
| Your Gurgaon release date | Flat handover, last office day, expiry of your parking sticker or pass | Book collection a few days before this date, not on it. A missed slot on your last day can't easily be rearranged. |
| Collection | Slot availability, society or office permission, owner or authorised person present | Condition record, key count and receipt number are completed here. |
| Confirmed dispatch | When the carrier's load departs | The 4–7 working-day estimate starts from this message, not from collection. |
| Arrival in the Kolkata area | Route, transfers, holidays, heavy rain | Ask for an arrival message before you fix a delivery slot. |
| Final delivery appointment | Receiver availability, keys, an agreed access point | Fix it only when the receiver can be there with ID and access to parking. |
| Your arrival and first workday | Flight or train, joining date, temporary accommodation | If you land after the bike, name a receiver or agree holding terms before you leave Gurgaon. |
Releasing the Bike in Gurgaon
The Gurgaon end is usually about permissions and access rather than distance. We collect across Gurugram, including the DLF phases, Golf Course Road and Golf Course Extension Road, Sohna Road, Dwarka Expressway sectors, New Gurgaon, Sushant Lok, South City, Palam Vihar, Udyog Vihar, Cyber City and IMT Manesar. Tell us which of the situations below applies.
Society basements
Many gated societies ask residents to pre-approve service visitors through their security desk or visitor app. Approve the collection team the day before and tell security that a bike is leaving. Tell us which basement level the bike is on and whether a small vehicle can go down the ramp. If it can't, the bike is wheeled up to the nominated loading point, and we take that into account when quoting. We don't assume vehicle entry into any basement.
Office campus parking
If your bike is parked at your office, the campus guard isn't automatically authorised to release a personal vehicle to a third party. Check with your facility or admin team in writing first. You or a person you've authorised should be present with the keys and document copies, and the facility should know the collection time. Collection is often easier from home on a weekend, so consider moving the bike there a few days before your last workday.
Independent houses and older sectors
In older sectors with narrow internal lanes, give us the nearest wider road where a small vehicle can stop lawfully, and tell us how the bike gets there: steps, a slope or a shared gate. That's usually all that's needed for a smooth collection.
Receiving the Bike in Kolkata: An Address-by-Address Decision Table
"Kolkata" covers very different addressing systems, and Howrah is on the other side of the Hooghly. An exact address avoids redirection calls, a second trip and disputes over who was meant to be at the gate. Use the row that matches your destination.
| Destination type | Details to send | Handover point to agree | Cost and timing effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Salt Lake (Bidhannagar) residential sectors | Sector number, block code, plot or house number, building name, which road the gate faces, and a landmark | The building gate or a lawful stop on the block road, and whether the bike may be wheeled inside the premises | An exact block and plot lets the local leg be planned once. "Salt Lake" alone may lead to a call-and-search delay on the day. |
| Salt Lake Sector V office | Building and campus name, the gate the facility uses for deliveries, its policy on personal vehicles, and the named receiver | The gate nominated by facility security, during office hours | Restricted to working hours. If the office can't accept a personal bike, a home address is often simpler. |
| New Town | Action Area, street or premises number, society or tower name, which gate, and PIN | The gate or parking area your society's security nominates, plus the route to your parking slot if you want it taken there | The wrong Action Area can mean a long detour. Confirm the PIN on your rental or allotment papers. |
| Central and older lanes | Exact address, the nearest wider road where a small vehicle can stop lawfully, and the path from there to the door (lane width, steps, a shared passage) | The agreed lawful stop, then the bike is wheeled the rest of the way | A long or awkward rolling path may need extra hands or time. Mention it in advance so it can be quoted. |
| South Kolkata home or PG | House or flat number, landlord's or PG owner's agreement to parking, and who holds the keys on delivery day | The gate or a confirmed parking spot | If the PG has no parking, choose another receiving address before dispatch rather than on the day. |
| Howrah (west bank) | Full Howrah address with PIN and a landmark, stated clearly as Howrah rather than Kolkata | The confirmed Howrah address, not a Kolkata-side office or a midway point | A Howrah drop is a different local leg from an east-bank Kolkata drop, and the quote may differ. |
| North and north-east fringe (Lake Town, Dum Dum, Baguiati, VIP Road side) | Exact locality, municipality or ward, and PIN | The building gate or a lawful stop nearby | Don't label these areas Salt Lake or New Town just because they're nearby. The local route is different. |
Why "New Town" alone is not an address
New Town is organised into Action Areas, with premises and street numbers inside each one, and different parts carry different PIN codes. The planned township's own published addresses identify a location by premises, Action Area and PIN. For example, one New Town office address in Action Area ID uses PIN 700156, while a unit in Action Area III uses 700135. If the local planning authority needs all three to pin down a place, a delivery team does too. Send the Action Area, premises or street number, tower, gate and PIN exactly as they appear on your rental agreement or allotment letter.
Salt Lake is not New Town
Salt Lake and New Town are neighbouring but separate areas with different address formats. Salt Lake addresses use a sector number together with a block code and plot number. New Town addresses use Action Areas and premises numbers. A booking that says "Salt Lake/New Town" can't be scheduled precisely. Pick the one your landlord's address uses and include every element.
Howrah on the other bank
If your flat, family home or PG is in Howrah, say Howrah in the booking. Howrah is a separate city on the west bank of the Hooghly. Delivering there is a different local leg from delivering to Salt Lake or South Kolkata, so it's planned and quoted as such. Equally, if you live in Howrah but want the bike delivered to your Kolkata office, say so. Those are two different handovers.
Keys, a named receiver and temporary accommodation
Decide before departure who will receive the bike. If it isn't you, give us their name and phone number. They'll need photo ID, a copy of your signed authorisation and the receipt number, and they must be someone who can inspect the bike and sign. A neighbour who happens to be home isn't a substitute unless you have named them.
If you're staying in a PG or with friends before moving into your flat, choose one option before you leave Gurgaon:
- deliver to the temporary address, with the owner's written agreement to parking
- agree in writing that the carrier will hold the bike for an agreed period at an agreed charge
- book a redelivery to the final flat at a later date, also priced in advance
Deciding on the day usually costs more than deciding in advance.
Packing Suited to Your Model
Packing is chosen for your bike, not applied as one standard bundle. In every case, the surfaces are dried before wrapping begins. The aim is to cushion paint and plastics, protect levers, mirrors and displays, and tie the bike down through strong frame points rather than across panels or the seat.
Scooters and scooties
Side panels, the front apron and the visor are the weak points on most scooters. They get soft padding first, and straps are kept off the plastics. Mirrors are removed or padded, and loose items are taken out of the under-seat storage and listed separately rather than left rattling inside.
Commuter motorcycles
The tank, headlamp, indicators and levers are padded. Crash guards and rear carriers stay fitted if they're solid, or come off if they're loose. Top boxes are emptied and either removed and listed, or secured with a note on the receipt.
Sports and naked street bikes
Fairings and clip-on bars crack if straps run over them, so tie-downs go through points the bike's design allows. The display, tail section and levers get extra cover, and handlebar-end weights and mirrors are checked for looseness.
Royal Enfield and cruisers
Weight is the main issue, so restraint is planned for a heavier machine. Chrome, the exhaust and crash bars are padded. Panniers are either removed and listed or fixed securely and recorded.
Accepted electric two-wheelers
An EV is accepted only once the exact model has been checked against the carrier's requirements and the manufacturer's guidance. There's no universal battery percentage or switch routine that applies to every scooter. Follow what the manufacturer and the carrier tell you for your model, and leave any battery work to authorised handling. If your scooter has a removable battery, ask in writing how it will be handled; don't assume it travels in the same consignment. The charger, cable and any accessories are listed on the receipt.
Large and premium tourers
Width with luggage, the windscreen and the value of the bike decide the method. Panniers may need to travel separately or be removed. Some owners want a dedicated space or a crate, which is assessed and quoted on its own line.
Non-running or damaged bikes
A non-running bike can often be moved, but tell us the facts first: does it roll, do the brakes hold, is the steering lock engaged without a key, are the tyres flat, and is there accident damage? These details decide whether it can be accepted, how it's loaded, and any special-handling charge. Leaking fluids or a damaged battery may need a workshop to look at it before transport.
Wet Weather: Pack Dry, Unpack Dry, Record Everything
Kolkata gets heavy rain in the monsoon months, and showers can arrive at either end of the journey. No packing makes a bike climate-proof, but a few habits reduce the risk:
- Don't wrap a wet bike. If it has been rained on or washed, it's dried before wrapping. Trapping water under plastic does more harm than good, so a bike is never sealed while damp.
- Collect under cover where possible. A covered parking bay or porch makes for better packing than an open road in the rain.
- Unpack somewhere dry. If it's raining on delivery day, agree a covered, lawful spot such as your building's parking or a porch before the wrapping comes off.
- Inspect before you sign. Look for moisture inside the packing, water on the seat or display, and any marks, and photograph what you find. Note it on the delivery receipt, even if it seems minor.
- Leave remedies to a workshop. If you find moisture or surface marks, record them and have a service centre look at the bike. Don't experiment with chemicals or with an EV's electrics.
Preparing the Bike Before Collection
- Fuel. Keep only a low level, as the carrier instructs for your booking. Don't fill the tank before collection, and never send spare fuel in bottles.
- Accessories. Remove phone holders, action-camera mounts, tank bags and loose top boxes. Anything that travels with the bike is listed on the receipt.
- Keys. Decide how many keys will travel with the bike and record the number. Keep a spare with you if you have one.
- Your own photos. Photograph all four sides, the odometer and any existing marks in daylight before the crew arrives.
- Document copies. Keep copies of the RC, current insurance and your ID ready, plus a signed authorisation if someone else will hand over the bike.
- Permissions. Approve the visit with society security or your office facility team the day before.
- Warning lights and faults. Tell us about any warning lights, weak brakes or a flat tyre before the collection day, not at the gate.
How Booking Works, Step by Step
- Enquiry. Send the model and variant, fitted parts, running condition, both exact addresses, your release date and the receiver's details through the quote form or by phone.
- Assessment and written estimate. You receive the category, the scope (hub-to-hub or doorstep), the carrier arrangement (shared or direct), and itemised lines for taxes, cover and any special handling.
- Booking confirmation. The payment, cancellation and rescheduling terms are as written in your accepted booking. Read them before you confirm.
- Collection. The crew records the bike's condition and fixes a receipt number. Packing for your model is done on the spot.
- Dispatch message. The transit estimate starts from here.
- Arrival and appointment. Once the bike reaches the Kolkata area, the delivery slot is fixed with you or your named receiver.
- Delivery inspection and sign-off. You unpack, compare the bike against the collection record, note anything on the receipt and sign.
Condition Record, Keys and Delivery Inspection
The collection record is what you'll compare against in Kolkata, so make it detailed. It should include:
- photos of each side, the tank, the panels and the display
- the odometer reading
- existing scratches and dents
- the number of keys handed over
- a list of accessories, including chargers, covers and helmets if you choose to send them
- the receipt number that links everything
Keep your own photos as well.
At delivery, check the bike before signing. Walk round it, compare the odometer and existing marks against the collection photos, check the mirrors, levers and display, and count the keys and accessories. If something is wrong, write it on the delivery receipt and photograph it there and then.
Some damage only shows up later, such as a scuff under a panel or a fault that appears on the first ride. Report it in writing as soon as you notice, with photos and your receipt number, within whatever time limits your booking and cover documents set. Prompt, documented reports are much easier to assess.
Documents and West Bengal Registration Questions
For transport, you normally provide copies of:
- the RC
- current insurance
- your photo ID
- a PUC certificate where applicable
- a signed authorisation if someone else hands over or receives the bike
Keep the originals with you, because you'll need them to ride once the bike arrives.
Getting the bike accepted for transport is a separate matter from long-term registration in West Bengal. If you plan to keep the bike in Kolkata for a long time, check the current requirements before you assume anything. These cover re-registration, any road tax and whether an NOC from the Haryana registering authority is needed, and you should confirm them with the West Bengal transport department or the relevant RTO. If the bike is financed, check your lender's terms on relocating it or transferring registration, because the hypothecation affects the paperwork. We don't give legal advice or promise fixed deadlines or tax outcomes. The rules depend on your circumstances and can change.
Railway Bike Parcel, Luggage or a Road Carrier: A Fair Comparison
Indian Railways offers two different ways to move a bike. Booking it as a parcel sends it separately from you. Booking it as luggage means it travels on the same train as your passenger ticket. Each has its own process and charges, and whether your station, train and model are accepted needs to be checked with the railway beforehand. Official railway guidance asks for the petrol tank to be empty. Ask the parcel office how it is checked rather than draining it yourself.
| Factor | Rail parcel or luggage | Road carrier through BikeShift Gurgaon |
|---|---|---|
| Handover | At the booking station's parcel or luggage office in Delhi, within its working hours | At your Gurgaon address (doorstep) or a confirmed loading point (hub-to-hub) |
| Packing | Arranged by you, or through packing services available at the station | Packing suited to the model, included in the estimate |
| Fuel | Empty tank, as per official guidance | Low level, as the carrier instructs for your booking |
| Collection in Kolkata | At the destination station's parcel office, under the railway's collection rules and any charges for late collection | At an agreed appointment at your address or a confirmed receiving point |
| Total cost | Freight plus packing, travel to and from both stations, and fuel afterwards | The category estimate plus taxes, chosen cover and any special handling |
| Suits | Owners travelling by the same train or living near the stations, with time at both ends | Owners flying or busy with a relocation, or anyone who needs a doorstep handover |
Rail can work well, especially if you're taking the train yourself and can be at the station at both ends. Compare the full cost and the time you'll spend, not just the freight figure.
Transit Cover and Claims
What transit cover pays for depends entirely on the policy or cover document actually issued for your booking. Before you confirm, ask four questions:
- Which stages are covered: collection, the long-distance journey, any transfer, and local delivery?
- What declared value is the cover based on?
- What is excluded? Pre-existing damage, mechanical faults and loose accessories are commonly excluded.
- How and by when must damage be reported?
Declare a realistic value and keep the cover document with your receipt.
If something is damaged, the evidence that counts is the collection record, your own photos, the delivery receipt notes and a prompt written report. We'll help you assemble that information, but no one can promise the outcome of a claim in advance. That depends on the issued policy and its assessment.
Choosing a Provider and Avoiding Costly Mistakes
Questions worth asking any provider
- Is the estimate hub-to-hub or doorstep, and what exactly happens at each end?
- Is the carrier shared or direct, and will there be a transfer?
- Which lines are itemised: taxes, cover, special handling, holding, redelivery?
- Will I get a written receipt with a reference number and a condition record at collection?
- What does the cover document say, and what are the payment and cancellation terms?
- Who do I contact after delivery if I find something later?
Clear answers in writing are worth more than the lowest figure quoted over the phone.
Mistakes that cost time or money
- Choosing hub-to-hub without adding up both local legs.
- Writing "Kolkata", "New Town" or "Salt Lake" without the block, Action Area, premises and PIN.
- Quoting a Howrah address as Kolkata, or the other way round.
- Booking delivery for a day when no one with keys or authority is at the receiving address.
- Leaving the collection to your last day in Gurgaon, with no slack for a missed slot.
- Assuming the office guard can release your bike.
- Sending the bike with loose accessories, a full tank or undeclared faults.
- Signing for delivery before inspecting the bike, especially in the rain.
Where you can genuinely save
- Remove accessories that would push the bike into a wider category.
- Pick the scope that suits your real distances.
- Give flexible collection dates so the bike can join a scheduled shared load.
- Agree holding or redelivery terms in advance rather than on the day.
Gurgaon to Kolkata Bike Transport FAQs
What are the bike transport charges from Gurgaon to Kolkata?
Planning estimates per assessed bike are: scooter ₹4,000–₹4,600 hub-to-hub or ₹4,600–₹5,400 doorstep; commuter motorcycle ₹4,400–₹5,000 or ₹5,000–₹6,000; sports and naked street bike ₹5,000–₹5,800 or ₹5,800–₹6,800; Royal Enfield and cruiser ₹6,000–₹7,000 or ₹6,900–₹8,200; accepted EV ₹4,600–₹5,400 or ₹5,400–₹6,400; large or premium tourer ₹8,500–₹11,000 or ₹10,500–₹15,000. These are estimates, not fixed all-inclusive prices. Taxes, chosen cover and special handling are itemised in your actual booking.
What is the difference between hub-to-hub and doorstep pricing?
Hub-to-hub means you hand over and collect the bike at confirmed loading and receiving points, so you arrange both local legs unless your quote says otherwise. Doorstep includes collection at your Gurgaon address and delivery at an agreed lawful access point at your Kolkata or Howrah address. Doorstep does not mean automatic entry into every tower, lift or basement. Compare the full cost of both, including your own travel to the handover points, before choosing.
How many days does bike transport from Gurgaon to Kolkata take?
Plan for about 4 to 7 working days after confirmed dispatch. The road distance is roughly 1,480 to 1,610 km depending on the exact addresses and the carrier's permitted route. Collection and any wait before the load departs come before that period, and the final delivery appointment is fixed after the bike reaches the Kolkata area. A passenger driving time of around a day is not a realistic freight delivery time.
Will my bike travel on one truck all the way?
Most bikes on this route travel on a shared carrier with other consignments, which can involve a transfer and a smaller local vehicle for the final city leg. If you want a direct or exclusive arrangement without transfers, ask for a separate quote, which depends on availability. Your written estimate states which arrangement applies, and updates are given at milestones such as collection, dispatch, arrival and out for delivery.
Can you deliver to Salt Lake, New Town or Howrah, and what address details do you need?
Yes, once the exact address is confirmed. For Salt Lake, send the sector, block code, plot or house number, building and gate. For New Town, send the Action Area, street or premises number, tower, gate and PIN, because different parts of New Town have different PINs. For Howrah, state clearly that the address is in Howrah, with its PIN and a landmark, because it is a different local leg from the Kolkata side of the river.
Does doorstep delivery mean the bike will be taken inside my tower or basement?
Not automatically. Doorstep delivery is to an accepted lawful access point, usually your gate or the parking area your society nominates. If you need the bike taken down a basement ramp or to a specific parking slot, tell us when you enquire and get your society's agreement. Any extra handling is then checked and priced in advance rather than decided at the gate.
Can someone else hand over or receive my bike?
Yes. Name that person in the booking. They should carry photo ID, a copy of your signed authorisation and the receipt number, and they must be able to inspect the bike and sign the receipt. At an office campus, the security guard is not automatically authorised to release or receive a personal vehicle, so arrange permission with the facility team in writing first.
I will stay in a PG first and move into a flat later. Where should the bike go?
Decide before you leave Gurgaon. You can deliver to the PG if the owner agrees in writing to parking. You can agree a holding period with the carrier at a written charge. Or you can book redelivery to the final flat on a later date, also priced in advance. Changing the address after dispatch is possible in some cases but usually costs more and takes longer.
How much fuel should be in the tank for road transport?
Keep only a low level, as the carrier instructs for your booking, and do not fill the tank before collection. Never send spare fuel in bottles. Railway parcel rules are different: official railway guidance asks for an empty tank, and the parcel office can tell you how this is checked. Do not try to drain fuel yourself.
Can you transport an electric scooter such as an Ather or iQube?
An EV can be moved once the exact model is accepted against the carrier's requirements and the manufacturer's guidance. There is no single battery percentage or switch routine for every scooter, so follow the instructions for your model and leave battery work to authorised handling. If your scooter has a removable battery, ask in writing how it will be handled. The charger and accessories are listed on the receipt.
Can a non-running or damaged bike be transported?
Often, yes, but tell us whether it rolls, whether the brakes hold, whether the steering is locked without a key, whether the tyres are flat and whether there is accident damage. These details decide whether it can be accepted, how it is loaded and any special-handling charge. A bike with leaking fluids or a damaged battery may need a workshop check before transport.
Which documents are needed, and do I need an NOC to ride in Kolkata?
For transport, provide copies of the RC, current insurance, your photo ID, a PUC certificate where applicable, and an authorisation if someone else hands over or receives the bike. Keep the originals for riding. Long-term registration, road tax and NOC requirements in West Bengal are separate from transport and depend on your circumstances, so check them with the West Bengal transport department or the relevant RTO, and with your lender if the bike is financed.
Is railway bike parcel cheaper than road transport?
The rail freight figure can be lower, but add packing, travel to and from the stations at both ends, waiting time and fuel after collection before comparing. Rail parcel and accompanied luggage are different services, and acceptance for your station, train and model must be checked with the railway. Rail suits owners travelling on the same train or living near the stations, while road suits those who need a doorstep handover.
What should I do if I find damage after delivery?
Inspect the bike before signing, in a dry place if it is raining, and note any damage or moisture on the delivery receipt with photos. If you find something later, report it in writing as soon as you notice, with photos and your receipt number, within the time limits in your booking and cover documents. What cover pays depends on the issued policy, the stages it covers, the declared value and its exclusions, so no outcome can be promised in advance.
